As I navigated my own mental health challenges, I repeatedly ignored my feelings until it became impossible to do so any longer. I was on a quest for something I could never seem to find, attempting to fill a void in my life with the wrong solutions, which ultimately threw everything out of balance. When I began sharing my story, I entered a circle of healing—a dynamic exchange of giving and receiving that embodies the true essence of recovery. Fitness became a crucial part of my healing process, forcing me to remain present and focus on myself. I learned to appreciate the simple things in life that we often take for granted: breathing, playing with our children, walking in nature, and so much more. By taking the time to heal, I allowed myself the opportunity to connect with my inner self and find peace amidst the chaos unfolding around me. Whether on the mat or during a workout, I felt an increasing connection between my body and mind. Moving my body helped alleviate my anxiety and fears. As I gave, shared, taught, and supported others on their journeys, I ultimately freed myself.
